Why simpler rooms = Happier Stays: The transformation at Weston House

If you’ve ever stayed in a tired old hotel room, you know the feeling: clunky furniture that takes up too much space, wardrobes that creak when opened, carpets that have seen better days. It doesn’t matter how many stars the place claims to have—if the room feels cramped, outdated, or fussy, it’s hard to settle in.
That’s exactly what we wanted to avoid at Weston House.
Our mission has always been to create accommodation that works for real life. As we continue to upgrade each of our 25 rooms, we’re finding that simplicity is the key to both style and practicality. Gone are the oversized wardrobes, worn-out drawers and heavy old beds. In their place? Clean, fresh, well-designed spaces that serve our guests the way they need to be served.
The Decision to Let Go of the Old
Let’s be honest: ripping out 25 rooms worth of furniture isn’t easy (or cheap). But as a family-run business living on site, we know how crucial it is that our accommodation reflects our standards—not just for guests, but for ourselves.
The old furniture had to go. It took up too much space, made cleaning more difficult, and didn’t match the modern, calming vibe we’re building here. We wanted something more aligned with:
Our branding (hello, lovely yellow chairs!)
Guest comfort
Cleanliness and hygiene
And ultimately, a room that feels like a place to rest, work and recharge
What We Added Instead
Each room is now fitted with:
Wall-mounted TVs — safer, sleeker, and more space-saving. No more risk of knocking over a TV while reaching for your socks!
Functional desks — whether our guests are students on placement at Dr Gray’s or contractors catching up on admin, they’ve got a space to focus.
Comfortable yellow accent chairs — these tie in beautifully with our brand palette and offer a pop of warmth and cheer.
Tartan bedding — a nod to Scottish tradition, this fabric is clean, crisp and ties in our homely, heritage feel.
We chose these elements not only because they look great, but because they work. They’re durable, easy to clean, and they serve the real people who come through our doors.
Space to Move, Breathe & Be
When we redesigned the rooms, one of the main goals was space. Too often, guest rooms are so crammed with furniture that there's nowhere to move, let alone roll out a yoga mat or stretch after a shift.
Now, our rooms offer more open floor area.
That means guests can:
Do a morning stretch or yoga session
Meditate before bed
Use resistance bands or bodyweight movements to keep up with their fitness
Simply enjoy a clean, calm space to breathe
It may sound simple, but these little lifestyle touches make a massive difference—especially for those who are staying for weeks or months.
Designed for Real Life
Our guests aren’t here for luxury escapes. They’re here to work, relocate, study, or build a new chapter. That’s why every design choice we make is rooted in real-life practicality.
We ask ourselves:
Is it easy to clean?
Will it last?
Does it give guests what they need without clutter?
Our new furniture setup makes turnover between guests faster and more thorough. Less clutter = fewer surfaces = more time spent deep cleaning the essentials. That means:
Cleaner rooms every time
Fewer missed spots
A fresher, more welcoming space for every new arrival
A Look That Matches Our Heart
We’re not a chain. We’re a family business. And Weston House reflects our values: warmth, honesty, functionality, and a little bit of boldness.
The yellow chairs aren’t just pretty—they’re our signature. The tartan bedding? That’s us tipping our hats to Scottish roots. The simplified layout? That’s our commitment to practicality.
This redesign isn’t just about new furniture. It’s about aligning every part of Weston House with who we are and who we serve.
Who This Is For
We’re not for everyone. But we are absolutely for:
Contractors working on energy projects or site jobs in Moray
Students on placement at Dr Gray’s or studying nearby
People relocating and needing a place to land
Solo travellers or remote workers needing a quiet, functional space
If you need peace, comfort, cleanliness and a space that feels lived-in but not worn out — we might be just what you’re looking for.
A Work in Progress (That We Love)
We’re nearly finished with the room transformations, with just a few left to go. Every week, we see the building becoming more like the place we dreamed of when we took the leap and bought it.
It’s not always been easy (ask us about the time we removed a wardrobe and triggered a leak!), but it’s always been worth it.
We’re proud of what Weston House is becoming. And we can’t wait to share it with the next wave of guests who walk through our doors.
